I’m hearing people say there were well over a thousand people who came through Public Works on Friday night, and honestly it felt like you were all there at the same time! When Slayers Club took the stage at 1:40 am, we saw a sea of smiles and familiar faces from 2 years’ worth of late nights and early mornings. Our marathon 4-turntable DJ set was one for the record books (we’ll DEFINITELY be doing that again!) and when the lights finally came on at 4 am there were still about a hundred heads going strong! THAT’s what I’m talking about…

Anyway, here’s to 2 (and one-sixth) years of Slayers Club mayhem. Get ready for Year Three!

The Austin-based producer/DJ also features strongly with his own drummed-up take on Ciara’s “Deuces”. Been listening to a lot of The xx, Lykke Li, Of Porcelain… along with down-tempo and mash ups/remixes I come across ever so often (such a sucker for mash ups!) but I can’t seem to get enough of these melodic voices combined with yummy beats… so beautiful and inspiring; the kind of music that touches you deep within, the kind that gets your blood pumping and your heart dancing. The kind that represents this specific time in your life: the right now.  Anyways, I’ve been a complete fiend for it. Hunting through music blogs till my eyes hurt.. the satisfaction has proved worth it.

changes are happening and time is flying quickly. I want to remember these moments forever and when the future has arrived, I will continue to time travel through these songs and feel like this again.

It turns out that not only is two-time DMC champ DJ Qbert the archetypal turntablist of this galaxy (and beyond?) but he is also a scholar and a cultured, compassionate gentleman. Somehow, between starting his own online DJ academy and playing benefit shows in the Philippines, he has found the time to launch a new gallery space at home here in the Bay Area:

“Our private gallery is based on a devotion to urban street art, sculpture and model figurines while showcasing DJ collectibles, custom equipment and rare vinyl records. The [invitation only] opening reception for our new space will present works from artist Mars-1, Damon Soule, Jesse Hernandez, Downtimer and Jay 222 on Friday, January 29th, 2010.”

JMouse came over the other day to work on the remix we’re doing for Kush Arora. It was super early (noon) and we were both plumb tuckered from gigs the night before.

We were about to become super productive and make brilliant, amazing music that would forever change the course of blappy-moozic when one of my external hard drives died.

It ain’t a thang to a Slayer, though…we whomped our way around the obstacle with characteristic nonchalance.
